Today, on the Bayou Blue Democrats Club podcast series, we are sharing the recording we made last night at our November Club meeting, one week after the 2018 midterm elections. We had special guest TSU Politics And Policy Professor Jay Aiyer join us to share his views and insights on the results, which are still coming in, and what it means for Democrats, Houston, Texas as well as national implications.
Please excuse the somewhat sub-standard sound quality, as we recorded in a large and noisy room, with many people participating and asking questions, as opposed to a more formal question and answer session in a controlled and quiet atmosphere.
In this episode, Professor Aiyer talks about the Blue Wave that has been anticipated and hoped for. Did it arrive, is it for real? Spoiler… Yes! How did individual Democrats perform against expectations and the electorate as a whole? How many Democrats showed up for this election, and how much longer to we think we might have to wait until Texas might start electing Democrats to state-wide office? Listen in and find out!
In This Episode:
- Was the Blue Wave for real, and how do we know for sure?
- How did Beto’s performance help or hurt other candidates up and down the ballot?
- What do the elections results means for Houston voters in future elections?
- Will Texas ever turn purple, or blue, and if so, when?
- What role did Straight Ticket voting have on the election?
