Today, on the Bayou Blue Democrats Club podcast series, are providing a recording from our July monthly club meeting at which we learn about the legal issues surrounding Family Separation at the border from Richard Horstman, former in-house counsel for Marathon Oil, who has been representing unaccompanied immigrant children for almost 12 years.
Please excuse the somewhat sub-standard sound quality, as we recorded in a large and noisy room, with many people participating and asking questions, as opposed to a more formal question and answer session in a controlled and quiet atmosphere.
Most of the children Richard has represented have been from Central America and in deportation proceedings. He helped pioneer use of Special Immigrant Juvenile Status as a path to permanent residency in the Houston Area.
He also represents trafficking victims and adults with children seeking asylum. His work has been recognized by both state and local organizations, and nationally in articles in the ABA Journal and the Wall Street Journal.
