County Attorney Vince Ryan and First Assistant Harris County District Attorney Tom Berg addressed the issue of Bail Bond Reform at the April 2018 of the Bayou Blue Democrats Club. Last April, a District Court found that Harris County violates the Equal Protection and Due Process clauses in its administration of justice for misdemeanor defendants, and we thought it might be a good idea to host some experts in the know to help us sort through the issues.

In this episode, the two attorneys discussed the difference between the misdemeanor and felony system in Harris County, and how bail bonds are addressed within each system. Also addressed were different forms of monitoring defendants instead of posting bond. And not shockingly, both attorneys agree on which types of Houston citizens are most affected by current bail bonds policies currently in place. Listen in to learn more!
